Winter Alliance Contest!
 Greetings, fair Allies! It is my pleasure to announce the Winter Alliance Contest!
:iconlit-visual-alliance:
What is the Alliance, you ask?
The Alliance is a project group intended to encourage visual and literary artists to work together. I've felt for some time that the dA Literature Community can at times be somewhat insular - to its detriment. We in the Lit Community are also sometimes prone to griping about the lack of exposure our work receives when compared to that of visual artists. So in the spirit of ^thorns brilliant Complaint Challenge I thought I would try to do something about that. And so the Alliance was born!
Because I, your founder, have a deep and abiding love for the seasons, this group will now host seasonal contests, and as the Autumn Contest is now over, it is time for Winter to reig

Get a Jump on NaNoWriMo 2012: PreWriting Prowess!
I've talked a lot about prewriting.  But prewriting is kind of vague, especially for someone who is either new to noveling/writing, or even for a seasoned writer who just has never tried prewriting.  Or, you know, I bet there are plenty of folks out there who prewrite and just don't call it that.  But I thought today I'd share my prewriting process, starting back on September 8, 2012, at 12:30 am, when I began planning my novel for NaNoWriMo 2012.
OK, I'll admit it, I spent way too much time at Target picking up a pile of notebooks while poor Boyfriend waited in the cafe, and then I came home and agonized over which one to pick.  But then I came home and I wrote the working title on the cover.  Et voila!

THE notebook for my NaNo 12 pro

A New Adventure
It was painfully obvious that Alin hadn't done any foraging for a few months. With the racket he was making pawing through the garbage can outside the house, it was any wonder that the occupants of the house hadn't called the police or the pound yet. Unless this kind of thing happened all the time, there was just no explanation as to why the happy family eating their roast dinner inside were letting the mera paw through their garbage. Finally, the screen door on the front porch slammed open and an object flew through the air and hit its target- Alin.
"And stay out, you lousy mongrel!" the housewife growled after Alin's retreating figure.
"I'll have you know I'm a purebred air mera," Alin muttered, directing a glare and rude gesture at the woman's back. Miranda had been giggling the whole time but now she burst into laughter and ran with Alin through the darkened streets of the town.
"Nice foraging, there, you big bear," she laughed once they were safely out of the way of being seen or

Thick As Thieves - Pt. 1
"You said you're a… what?"
"Philanthropist. The founder of a small society dedicated to preserving vampire culture. I was hoping for a few moments of your time, Lord Tobias."
He slipped a hand into the pocket of his black, wool blazer and produced a business card. The vampire seated at the desk – the aforementioned Most Honorable Tobias, Marquis of the French Quarter, New Orleans, Louisiana – accepted the small, rectangular piece of card stock and studied it. "Jackson Phillips," he said, reading the raised lettering on the front. His eyes shifted up to Jackson. "The Banks Foundation of the Vampire Arts?"
"Yes, Helen Banks." Jackson sat and crossed his legs loosely, draping one arm across the back of his chair while he motioned with the other. "Our original benefactor. She was my maker; six hundred years old before she met her second death fifty years ago. I started the foundation as something of a tribute to her. Helen was always fond of the arts."
"Fascinating." Tobias

One Who Masters Magic: Prologue
A Prophecy Worth Blood
Prophecy is both a gift and a curse. It can gift a man with insight into the future that can benefit all of mankind, but it can also curse him with knowledge that others will kill to obtain or to silence.
—Terrand of Malorez, Master Prophet
Goteip
Malorez Province
Angvardi Empire
429, Third Age

The sound of iron shod hooves clattering against cobblestones rang out as three dozen men rode hard toward a drab monastery nestled in a small grove of trees miles down the road. The men ignored the cold winter wind that bit at their cheeks and the looming darkness from the shortened days. They knew the way to their destination well and the simple road guided them even in the dim light. All of these men were dressed in expensive heavy plate armor with mail beneath and carried spears in their hand and a sword on their belt. Each wore the crest of their emperor upon their chest plate. The silver mountain and the four golden stars

Submit Your News to CRLiterature!
Now you can submit your literature community news directly to CRLiterature's journal! We're super excited about this because it allows us to streamline our news. Time-sensitive activities are less likely to fall through the cracks, and deviants will have to click through less stuff to find your news. Your article will go directly to watcher and member inboxes allowing them to see the headline and description.
As a hub this is a great step in the right direction. Watchers will have an easier time discovering news, activities, and events outside of their watch list. Instead of figuring out if you're watching all the right people and hunting down your lit news, it will come to you.
If you're newer, or not as well known, to the literature community, submitting will help you reach more active and interested deviants. In turn, it's an opportunity to increase your participation levels. :eager: And you know we're all about participation!

Editing Commissions

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 25, 2012, 6:46 AM
I am considering opening up commissions. I am trained as an editor and am willing to go over people's work. I can do both fiction and non fiction. If you have any fanfiction, we can discuss the work, but I reserve the right to add fees for fandoms I am not familiar with and would have to research.

My prices will be (per page):

$2 for basic grammar and spelling
$5 for plot holes and word choice
$10 for line edits

If you are interested please contact me. And if you can please spread the word of my commissions I would be very grateful. These commissions are going towards paying for my GRE test and my graduate school applications.
